For nearly two decades, the Rotary Amphitheater in Community Park has been the heartbeat of entertainment in Cranberry Township. From Community Days to Movies in the Park, free concerts, and theater productions, this stage has brought people together through music, laughter, and shared experiences. But after 17 years of performances, thousands of fans, and countless events, the amphitheater needed a significant refresh to keep the music playing and visitors dancing.
That’s why the Cranberry Township Community Chest (CTCC) selected the Rotary Amphitheater as its 2020 Project of the Year. With a $300,000 goal, the project restored and enhanced the amphitheater to ensure it remained a premier community venue for years. Armstrong sponsored the project, signing on for a six-year sponsorship.
The first phase of renovations included new electric lines for enhanced lighting and sound, an upgraded roofline, and improved ADA accessibility. Crews also added a new sound system and upgraded the dressing rooms as part of the project.
“This is an important project and has the ability to impact every Township resident, whether they or their families perform on the stage or simply enjoy entertainment from the lawn,” said Wendy Lydon, CTCC Board of Directors, in 2020. “We want to make sure this community asset continues to be an integral part of our residents’ lives.”
A Giving Tree was constructed on the exterior wall to celebrate the amphitheater’s deep connection and honor the bond between art and the community. Community members can sponsor a leaf as a tribute—whether in memory of a loved one, as a family who cherishes summer nights in the park, or simply as a supporter of the arts.
In addition, Cranberry Sunrise and Noon Rotaries, and First Energy Corp. provided significant donations for the project.
