It’s considered one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States.
Between 2019 through 2020, the Professional Disc Golf Association says the sport saw a 33% increase in games played.
Fittingly, in 2018, CTCC’s Project of the Year not only introduced Disc Golf to Cranberry Township but also created one of the largest courses in the world.
The 18-hole Championship disc golf course and 6-hole ADA Learn-to-Play recreational course are located on 30 acres in the western portion of North Boundary Park. The course is over 10,700 feet long, and of the 7,400 disc golf courses worldwide, it’s the 10th longest in the world and the longest in Pennsylvania. Its terrain covers elevation changes, tight fairways, and plenty of trees, making throwing frisbees into metal baskets challenging for players on the 72-par course.
While the course is nationally sanctioned for a rotation of tournaments, CTCC’s ultimate vision was to establish it as a premier destination for the annual, multi-day Cranberry Masters, bringing together the game’s top players.
The $300,000 project also included two miles of new nature trails connecting with nearby trails.
Pittsburgh’s NPR News Station, 90.5 WESA, highlighted the project ahead of its opening in 2019. You can read/listen to the story here.
