2016 CTCC Project of the Year tackles Miracle League Field, adds Playground

In 2016, the Cranberry Township Community Chest hit it out of the park with its Project of the Year: the resurfacing of the Miracle League Field and the construction of the Pirates Charities Out of the Park Playground in Graham Park. These initiatives weren’t just about upgrading facilities but about fostering inclusion, accessibility, and joy for individuals of all abilities.

A Field of Dreams

Originally opened in 2009, the Cranberry Miracle League Field was specifically designed to give children and adults with special needs the opportunity to play baseball. Its rubberized surface, adaptive rules, and welcoming environment make America’s pastime accessible for all.

However, over time, the field’s surface began to show signs of wear. Thanks to the CTCC Project of the Year, the field was resurfaced, ensuring the Miracle League of Pennsylvania could continue to host its programs.

A Playground for Everyone

The Pirates Charities Out of the Park Playground, built alongside the Miracle League Field, is a baseball-themed haven for children of all ages and abilities. With two play areas connected by a walkway lined with interpretive signs, the playground is where families can come together to enjoy a day at the park.

The Power of Community

Bringing this $600,000 project to life required a monumental community effort. Funding was raised through CTCC’s annual Community Days celebration, direct mail campaigns, and other local fundraisers. Seneca Valley students played a significant role, contributing $20,000 through their Raiderthon dance, while Pirates Charities generously donated $100,000.

This project exemplifies the power of a community united by a shared goal. The Miracle League Field and Out of the Park Playground are more than just physical spaces; they represent Cranberry Township’s commitment to inclusion, teamwork, and creating opportunities for everyone to participate and play.

As these facilities continue to serve the community, they stand as a testament to what can be achieved when we come together to make a difference.
